The Glasgow Guardian collection provides access to student newspapers published at the University of Glasgow between 1932 and 2007. The collection brings together the Gilmorehill Globe, Gilmorehill Guardian, and Glasgow University Guardian. It offers a record of student voices, campus culture, and political and social debate across much of the twentieth century.

The Glasgow Guardian collection provides access to student newspapers published at the University of Glasgow between 1932 and 2007. The collection brings together the Gilmorehill Globe, Gilmorehill Guardian, and Glasgow University Guardian. Digitisation, metadata and transcription
The Glasgow Guardian collection originated from a collaborative digitisation project launched in 2007 by the Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (HATII), University Library and Archive Services, and the Students’ Representative Council. The project was undertaken to preserve fragile newspaper holdings and improve access to the student newspaper archive. Issues published between 1932-1935 and 1955-2007 were digitised, creating approximately 8,000 digital images. As part of their migration to the Digital Research Collections platform, the images were reprocessed using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to provide enhanced full-text search and discovery. As with all OCR-generated text, the results may contain errors or omissions, particularly where original print quality, page condition, or layout affect the accuracy of automated text recognition. Existing metadata was also standardised and enhanced to improve discovery and consistency across the collection.
