An 1807 heavily condensed version of the King James Bible intended for colonial missionary work, in which substantial sections from both Testaments were removed. This edition is commonly referred to as the 'Slave Bible'.

Call and Response: The University of Glasgow and Slavery

In 2016, the University of Glasgow acknowledged that, despite its strong abolitionist stance in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, it had continued to accept donations from individuals who profited from slavery. This exhibition builds on that discussion through responses to archives, books, and objects held in the University Library and The Hunterian.
 
This item was digitised in 2019 by the University of Glasgow Library's Photographic Unit. Digitisation was undertaken to support research and public engagement with the volume, including its inclusion in the University's Call and Response: The University of Glasgow and Slavery exhibition.
