What is Digital Research Collections?

Digital Research Collections showcases material from the University of Glasgow Library's unique and distinctive collections to support research and public exploration. Collections are organised and described to help users understand their context and content, to enable meaningful engagement with primary source material.

 

In addition to searching using keywords, you can explore content by browsing curated collections, themes, and also through exhibitions.

Each collection has a designated collection landing page, designed to provide an overview of the material and gather relevant articles and exhibitions in one easy-to-navigate location. There is also information on the digitisation process, metadata enhancement, and transcription for each collection on its home page.

 

More precise search results can be achieved by using specific keywords and phrases. Quotation marks can be used to search for an exact phrase, and filters can be applied to narrow results gradually. Starting with broader terms and refining results using filters is often the most effective approach. Filters can be adjusted or cleared at any time.

 

Where rights permit, download options are available from the viewer or item page. A rights statement is provided for each item and should be reviewed before reuse. The rights status of material has been assessed to the best of our knowledge; however, the University of Glasgow cannot guarantee the accuracy or completeness of rights information. Users are responsible for complying with copyright and other applicable rights and for obtaining any necessary permissions. Where reuse is permitted, acknowledgement can be given to the University of Glasgow Archives & Special Collections.

 

Material from Digital Research Collections can be linked to directly from teaching materials. Items can also be downloaded and embedded in presentations or learning resources where permitted, and you can filter your search by rights status. 

 

The built‑in IIIF viewer supports close engagement with digital items. It allows users to zoom in on images, rotate pages, and navigate multi‑page material easily.
