Glasgow Makes People:

575 years of student life

This exhibition explores the evolution of student experience at the University of Glasgow since 1451. It looks at how the University and the city have influenced generations of students, not just as scholars, but as people. By highlighting life beyond the classroom (clubs and societies, sports, entertainment, representation and wider student life), it offers a fresh perspective on what it means to be part of a university community with a 575-year history. As well as marking the 575th anniversary of the University, Glasgow Makes People celebrates the 140th anniversary of the Students’ Representative Council, which was founded in March 1886. This digital exhibition presents selected content from the physical exhibition on display throughout 2026 in the University Library Exhibition Space, Level 2. Free and open to all.
